about

The Restless Fields is a collaborative project between Philipp Bückle and David Folkmann Drost. Although their eponymous debut album is centered mostly around live performance, the pair are spread out geographically; Philipp is from Dortmund, Germany whilst Dane David is currently residing in Malmö, Sweden. The Restless Fields project may be new to many, but some of you may be familiar with their solo work as these artists have built separate discographies listing labels such as Eglantine Records, Morr Music, Tarkovsky Green and Dendron Records via their respective pseudonyms Teamforest and Moongazing Hare. Not to mention collaborative works with the likes of Monolyth & Cobalt and Nils Quak.

The project began when there was a schedule problem for a ‘Beth Kleist‘ booking (Philipp’s work alongside Nils Quak) at a festival in a church in Dortmund. Cue a speculative invite to a more than willing David Folkmann Drost, The Restless Fields were born as the pair took stage. They have also since performed at the Fanø Free Folk Festival, where they were lucky to appear alongside other headline acts including Svarte Greiner.

In the self-titled album The Restless Fields, we have a four piece record which is near enough a completely live set. Both artists approached the recording in a different way as Philipp’s deliberate attention to detail combines with David’s more impressionistic approach. Philipp’s sonic arsenal included a Jazzmaster guitar, some Strymon pedals, a Moogerfooger and an OP-1 as well as field recordings he’d captured in Paris. David’s consisted of a bowed dulcimer, bells, some melodica, voice and various pedals. There was no pre-conceived idea of a concept or particular direction, other than sinking into a shared space.

The Restless Fields is the inaugral release on The White Lab and is available in a highly limited run of 50 handmade white label vinyl effect CDrs. Each copy is burnt, hand-stamped and shipped directly from the label along with a polaroid print of the cover artwork inside a circular vinyl style sleeve.
